What to do the day after a big meal

I love the holidays. And I love holiday meals.

I want to celebrate with family and friends who are like family, and enjoy good food, guilt free.

That’s what holiday’s are for.

No dieting on holidays, or refusing your mother’s stuffing that you LOVE, because you no longer do carbs.
C’mon!

Because here’s what will happen: It’ll come out sideways in a day or so, as you nosedive into that stuffing– cold, for breakfast.

So, ease up, and enjoy!

Here are my best tips for getting back to normal, beginning the next day.

As an aside; this is NOT the day for a juice cleanse, or master cleanse, or for starving yourself! You’ll shut down your metabolism, and today, of all days, it needs to be strong and working!

1)Water

Hydrating after a big meal will boost your metabolism, and keep your body humming along. That’s important, since you ate more than usual the day before. More water will increase your energy, and make you feel clear headed.

Prepare a big pitcher, or several water bottles full of water; spiced up with cinnamon sticks or lemon slices, and sip throughout the day.

2)Green Smoothie
Get your greens and phytonutrients today to balance your body, and help you cleanse the inflammatory, rich foods from the day prior. Enjoy a fiber rich green smoothie instead of green juice today to cleanse your digestion, and help with elimination.

3)Protein
Quality, and easy to digest protein will support your metabolism and give you energy. Leftover turkey is easy, but instead of carbs the day after, have your turkey on a big bed of greens (again, more fiber and phytonutrients). Another great choice is quinoa—an easy to digest protein that’s high in fiber. Quinoa cooks quickly, so you can make a batch and enjoy this warm for breakfast with almond milk and goji berries, or as a pilaf, with leftover veggies.

4) Root Vegetables
Seasonal root veggies are sweet, high in fiber, and satisfying, especially if you’re avoiding carbs like stuffing and dessert today. Roast sweet potatoes, squash, onions, carrots, and beets for a savory and sweet filling meal. Or snack.

5) Move
Walk, stroll, skip; do SOMETHING to help your body digest the big meal you enjoyed yesterday. Moving will assist your digestion and boost your metabolism to move things along. You’ll burn your holiday meal pronto!
