Bone broth, formerly known as old fashioned “stock,” has become the health tonic, du jour. And as we head into the chilly days of fall and winter, I thought I’d do a roundup of why that’s so, and how you can get on board before mitten weather hits.
Girlfriends are claiming gorgeous skin and my clients swear by this soothing source of all-day energy.
Here’s why you need to try this old school craze.
Good for the gut: Got digestive issues? The natural gelatin in bone marrow helps heal your gut, and allows everything to flow and digest with greater ease.
Joint health: An array of minerals in bone broth can be beneficial for joint support, and may even help guard against joint pain and stiffness. A dose of glucosamine naturally seeps into the stock, so you might find that you no longer need to take the tablets.
More energy: This warming treat contains vitamins, protein and minerals, while being low in calories. Not that we’re counting them.
Plumper, healthier skin: Bone broth contains collagen, and while the jury is out on whether taking collagen internally really works as well as externally, I say give it a try. There are enough experts out there touting this to make me a believer.
Sleep better: Bone broth contains magnesium, which I often recommend for sleepless nights, or high anxiety days. Enjoy a cup to wind up your day.
Ready to make your own? Here’s my favorite recipe that will leave your house smelling divine. My dogs LOVE when I simmer this stuff.
