A Happy Gut

It’s barely summer, and I’m concerned about your immunity for the fall.

That’s because now is the time to begin strengthening your digestion, which is where most of your immunity is located.

New research shows that your gut contributes to your happiness factor, too, so we’ll see science invest more funds into studying our “second brain.”

Exciting, isn’t it?

There are foods that contribute to a strong digestion, and habits to begin now that will leave you TRULY healthier and happier come September! Here’s my line up, just in time.

Foods that help your gut:

High fiber
Keeping your digestion humming along is one of the keys to a healthy gut.
That means don’t allow constipation or a sluggish digestion to slow you down.

Take advantage of summer and enjoy high fiber fruits and veggies right now, like peaches, apples, greens, broccoli, cabbage, or blend up your favorite gazpacho.

Other favorites on my list are chia seeds, like in this favorite pudding, or ground flax seeds.

Probiotcs
Taking a daily broad spectrum probiotic makes sense to do right now, because it can take up to a few months to feel the effects. Probiotics contain healthy bacteria that will help strengthen your immunity, and yes, boost your happiness.

I recommend this probiotic by Be Well, and alternate it with this probiotic powder to add to your morning smoothie.

Yogurt/Kefir

Healthy Omnivores might prefer organic yogurt or kefir, containing live bacteria. My family is a huge fan of this berry parfait during the summer.

Fermented foods

Fermented foods like kimchi, kumbucha, and sauerkraut are a delicious and whole-food way to add more healthy bacteria to your gut.

Keep a fresh batch of sauerkraut in the fridge and add it to your morning eggs, salads, wraps, or enjoy it solo. You can read more about the power of fermented foods and how to use them here.

Begin healing and supporting your gut health, today, and prepare to reap the rewards in a month or two. Go on, get happy!
