Beauty from the inside out
While there’s no magic pill that will keep you young and beautiful forever (unless you’re the evil queen!), there are foods that are proven to make you more attractive and, well, younger looking. That’s one of the things I shared with The Huffington Post recently, by the way.
You can focus on your dermatologist bill, or start from the inside and work out.
Here are my favorites!
Consider this your beauty-foods shopping list…
1) Colorful vegetables
The brighter the color of the vegetable, the better. Bright produce is loaded with phytonutrients, which protect you against sun damage and keep blood flowing to your skin, keeping it vibrant and fresh looking.
Add to your list: carrots, red bell peppers, tomatoes, kale and all DLG’s (dark, leafy greens).
2) Healthy fats
Your skin needs healthy fats to keep cells young and fresh looking, so don’t skimp in this area, or you’ll risk dry skin, and chronic digestive issues.
Add to your list: avocado, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, walnuts
3) Anti-inflammatory foods
Anti-inflammatory foods and spices are powerful allies in reducing inflammation throughout the body; they help to alleviate joint pain, boost your immunity, reduce redness or broken blood vessels, and keep your skin looking clear.
Add to your list: turmeric, flax oil, ginger.
4) Water
Hydrate from within by adding more water into your day, beginning now. Water is crucial to your health, and will assist your metabolism and digestion, and support your vital organs. It will also show on your face, with clear eyes and skin.
Make it even easier by adding some flavor to your pitchers and water bottles.
Add to your list: cucumbers, limes, fresh mint.
5) Healthy proteins
You need protein to sustain you throughout the day, for energy, strong hair and nails, muscle strength, and more. But quality is key, no factory farmed meat for you. Go for hormone free, antibiotic free animal proteins, and know your source if you can. Or lighten up in time for summer, and try more meatless options.
Add to your list: wild salmon, raw nuts, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, chickpeas.
