CHAPTER EIGHT: AUTUMN ARRIVES

Fall is a complex time for beauty, as your skin and hair react in different ways to the sudden change in weather. After summer’s drying sun and heat, your oil glands are still pumping and doing their job, and haven’t caught up to the change in weather. There are simple ways to keep your skin, hair, and overall glow in gorgeous condition by utilizing ingredients that you probably have on hand, in your kitchen cupboard. Then get seasonal, and add a spice for fall; like cinnamon, or star anise that will warm you from the inside out. I think you’ll love my do-it-yourself beauty remedies for fall, and all the rest of the year, too.

1) Aloe and Frankincense Moisturizer
I keep doTERRA Frankincense oil on hand at all times. Frankincense is said to help with aging, skin care, and fine lines. Who needs those? I blend a small amount of this precious oil with a carrier oil like coconut and smooth it on my skin a few times a week. Not only does it smell heavenly, but it really works.

This rare oil is pricey, that’s why I’m giving it away tomorrow, Monday, September 1st, along with an entire essential oils kit. I know, the hits just keep on comin’. Enter The DYNS Giveaway today! Details below, and here.

2) Oatmeal and Honey Mask
Post-summer breakouts got you down? This mask for oily skin smells delicious enough to eat, and is an instant acne-fighter. The oats help to exfoliate and smooth your skin and the honey is anti-bacterial, so it goes to the root cause of your breakout.

What you’ll need:
1 TBSP raw oatmeal
2 TSP honey
1 TSP water

Grind the oats in a coffee grinder to a fine powder. In a small bowl, mis the ground oats with the honey and water or lemon juice. Apply the mask to the entire face, with the exception of the eye area. Allow the mask to sit for 10-20 minutes. Remove gently with a soft washcloth and warm water. The gets messy, so be sure to do it over the sink.

Don’t do this in front of your dog—unless you want lots of face licks. My dog, Bob, always gets very excited by all that sweetness.

3) Hydrate, in seasonal style
One of the best ways to keep your skin glowing through the fall is to keep hydrating long after the summer heat fades away. It might feel counter intuitive, so consider this season-focused trick: Fill a pitcher and your water bottle first thing in the morning—but also be sure to make it pretty. Stay summertime-hydrated AND in the fall spirit by adding cardamom, star anise, and cinnamon sticks as the weather gets a little chilly. Those are warming spices that will make you feel, well, warmer, as you enter sweater weather.

Grab these recipes, and lot’s of other seasonal how-tos inside the covers of Discover Your Nutritional Style. Do it before September 15th, and join our celebration.
