Book Review: Integrative Nutrition
The new edition of Integrative Nutrition is a must read if you get that there’s a connection between what you eat on a daily basis and your energy, looks, weight and overall happiness.
Author Joshua Rosenthal is the founder of the world’s largest Nutrition School, so it’s no accident that he’s able to write this book in an easy to read, enjoyable, and fascinating way. I’ve given this book to many people, and while it’s a comprehensive starter guide for the uninitiated, there’s something in here for everyone, nutrition coaches and medical doctors included.
Joshua breaks it all down, beginning with breakfast. He shares something that those of us who attended IIN (Institute for Integrative Nutrition) know well; the Breakfast Experiment. It’s a quick and easy quiz that teaches you the basics of tuning into your body and how various foods affect you. One week of doing the Breakfast Experiment and you’re well on your way to better health. No kidding.
You’ll also get a fantastic overview of the top dietary theories out there, popular diets, cleanses, and trends; Paleo, high protein, raw food, DNA, and more… and you’ll learn the pro’s and con’s, who the diets may benefit and who should stay away. If you love overviews, or are a student of nutrition yourself, this section is not to be missed and worth buying the book.
Joshua also delves deep into cravings; and deconstructing them. He explores how craving certain foods is often indicative of something else, often emotional needs or unsatisfied desires (get ready for some breakthroughs there).
Food and Mood, the importance of home-cooking, and a surprising look and twist at why you really are what you eat makes this book a favorite of mine. The recipe section if great too, tested, tried and true winners that will become favorites of yours, as well.
Overall, this book gets 5 stars from me:)
