Easy to Find Superfoods
ABC’s “Let’s Talk Live” show contacted me and asked for my take on some healthy foods that were not the standard “health food store” fare.
Would I speak about some foods that were accessible, easy to find, and easy to incorporate into a healthy diet on a weekly basis? Food we can find at our local store?
Absolutely!
The result was “Berries, Beets and Bison”, and a whole lot more. Check out this clip and see if any of these foods can find their way into YOUR diet this month.
7 New Foods to Incorporate into Your Diet
–Berries, not just Goji’s or Acaii, the current trendy berries from the Far East and the Amazon. What about blueberries from New Jersey or Strawberries from Virginia or California? Cranberries from Maine? All of these berries are high in antioxidants, and contain compounds that are heart healthy, support our organs and boost our energy!
–Greek Yogurt, and my alternative Sheep Yogurt if you’re dairy intolerant. Yogurt is fermented, so its rich in probiotics hat support a healthy gut and therefore your immunity. Avoid sugar laden brands and go for plain Greek Yogurt or the easier to tolerate Sheep variety.
–Beets, a cost effective, high fiber boost to your nutrition- Beets are loaded with antioxidants and minerals that are heart healthy and anti-inflammatory. Roast them, grate them, juice them for a sweet trea.
–Walnuts, are a wonderful protein for the vegetarian or vegan diet and a terrific snack for anyone! They are loaded with fiber, antioxidants, omega 3 healthy fats that are anti-inflammatory. Recent studies have linked them to brain health.
–Bison is a super lean and healthy protein alternative to beef. Most Bison is sustainably farmed and grass fed and contains as much fat as a lean piece of chicken.
–Quinoa is a delicious, nutty tasting grain that is quick cooking and readily absorbs flavors. It’s easily digested, high in protein, high in fiber and so easy to prepare! Quinoa makes a wonderful warm pilaf, a breakfast cereal or a cold Summer salad.
