Glowing summer skin all year long

Maybe it’s being outside more, or catching sun from under that Panama hat, but everyone looks better in the summer. Right?

The extra exposure..sleeveless dresses, sandals, short pants, makes us all more conscious of our outer layer, so here are my best practices for keeping your summer glow. All year long.

Brighten with a dry brush

My clients are addicted to this one!

Take advantage of the season and add dry brushing to your daily routine. Dry brushing is a centuries old method of stimulating your skin with a natural bristle brush. While it’s perfect for removing dead skin cells, it stimulates your lymphatic system and promotes all-over health, too.

You can purchase a natural bristle brush at the supermarket, health food store or pharmacy. They generally have a long handle and look like a back brush; my favorite one has a shorter handle that makes it easier to navigate.

You can read more about dry brushing here, and enjoy having the smoothest legs ever. here.

Drink up

You know you need to stay extra hydrated in the summer, but if you’re having a hard time staying on top of it, here’s a reminder. Water nourishes your skin from the inside out, and gives you energy, so if you feel like you’re lagging, this will help.

Keep your water bottle full and with you at all times. And while I advocate a reusable bottle, if you find yourself needing to grab a bottle on the way to the beach, I recommend this PH balanced water by Essentia.

Soft scrub
From top to bottom, your skin will benefit from gentle exfoliation. In addition to dry brushing, a gentle, soft scrub is a simple and soothing way to remove dead skin cells.

I like to make my own soft scrubs using essential oils and sugar or sea salt. One of my favorites is this Wild Orange Facial Scrub.

Your skin will thank you.

Protect and pamper

Premature skin aging and skin cancer is often directly connected to sun exposure, so while you love to soak up the rays, you want to be safe and protect your skin.
Use a cream that’s toxin-free and hits the safety standards set by the EWG. You can find an extensive list of over 700 safe sunscreens, evaluated by the Environmental Working Group, here. Whether you’re looking for protection for your face, a water proof sport lotion, or balm for your lips, they’ve got you covered.

And don’t forget that after a day outdoors you want to take care, too. This After-Sun Savior with lavender and aloe will help soothe and heal.

Feed your skin

Mother Nature is no dummy.

Summer’s produce nourishes and feeds your skin, promoting elasticity, and loaded with vitamin C and colorful phytonutrients.

Here’s the hit list for fresh, supple, skin:
Strawberries
Blueberries
Olive oil (you can also put olive oil directly onto your skin for an great mask treatment)
Melon
Spinach and organic leafy greens
Cucumber
Carrots

Add these to your summer style, today!
