In My… Pantry

In My Pantry

Ready for a sneak peak, real-life look behind closed doors? No props, no prep, just us. Take a look inside my pantry.

I keep a lot of pantry items in hermetically sealed glass jars—most grains, lentils, beans, nuts and seeds—for freshness and easy identification. And while a can or two might be found at times on those shelves, I do my best to avoid them due to toxins from the can. Wherever possible, I choose non-perishables in glass jars or dried.
I also use the refrigerator—to prevent rancidity and preserve freshness—for oils and super foods. And I keep many sweeteners there too, to avoid ants.

The Thompson’s pantry, or part of it anyway…

TOP SHELF

1. Runa tea
Runa tea is my personal tea addiction, made from the Guayusa plant from Ecuador, it provides a natural lift and energy boost, without the jitters or the addictive crazy of coffee. I love the ginger or mint flavors and vary it up by season. I also use loose leaf Runa in my french press.

2. Green Teas
I keep all kinds of tea on hand for antioxidants, flavor, and to keep guests happy.

3. Dandy Blend dandelion tea
This is a great coffee substitute; when paired with coconut creamer it creates a wonderful international coffee moment. Close your eyes and dream.

4. Local, raw honey
From Over the Grass Farm. I believe in eating the honey from where you live to allow local pollen to build immunity to local allergens. This one is from my friend, Dielle’s farm.

5. Organic cocoa mix
I keep this in the cupboard for my son; even though it contains sugar, its 100% organic, and not too sweet.

6. Coconut Butter and Coconut Oil
These are constant staples in my cupboard. Coconut butter contains the coconut flesh too, and tastes so good you can eat it straight from the jar. We add this to my son’s smoothies, or I use it for raw food treats.

7. LENTILS
Orange, green, french, white, black … Lentils are a wonderful protein source, and my friends who are flexible vegetarians enjoy them. I keep all colors on hand, for taste and I adore the way they look in glass jars.

MIDDLE SHELF

8. Quinoa Pasta
A delicious gluten free pasta, and I often have a variety of shapes on hand for an easy, quick family meal for my son and friends.

9. Black Bean Pasta
Made from 100% black beans and tastes delicious. They can be used with tomato sauce, pesto, or a healthy cream sauce.

10. Sweet Potato Pasta
These noodles are a treat added to stir fry vegetables. They’re sweeter than regular pasta, and taste delicious.

11. Tomatoes in a jar
Another staple in my pantry for my tomato loving family. I try to buy them in glass to avoid the toxins found in cans.

12. Grains
Farrow, brown rice and quinoa. We use brown rice regularly as an accompaniment to veggies or added to soup. Quinoa, while actually a seed, is one of my favorites, and I make this often as a protein source.  Farrow is an ancient grain and has a hearty bite and flavor.

LOWER SHELF

13. (Raw) Cereals
While I don’t recommend a lot of processed cereals, even if they are organic, I usually keep at least one on hand for my son or guests. I keep a raw cereal on hand for me, for when I crave cereal—and I always enjoy it with DIY hemp or coconut milk.

14. Nuts and Seeds
My pantry is always stocked with nuts and seeds of all different kinds, cashews, hazelnuts, pumpkin seeds, almonds, walnuts and more. These are great for teenagers.

15. Dried fruits
Goji Berries, Golden Berries, Raisins, oh my! Dried fruits are a healthy snack, high in minerals and antioxidants but also high in sugar; use moderation when enjoying them.

17. Snack Bars
Protein bars can be as high in sugar and as processed as candy bars, so choose your brands carefully. The bars here are Organic Bar brand, and Raw Bars. Lower in sugar and delicious.
