Magnesium, the miracle mineral
Meet my friend, Magnesium, the miracle mineral.
Magnesium is found in many foods, like spinach, nuts, black beans, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, but chances are you’re still lacking in this vital nutrient. Many of us are.
Magnesium helps you relax, everywhere, and creates a sense of calm. It helps you fall asleep, and balances the nervous system. It can also cure occasional constipation, (that relaxing effect in action) and release tense, aching muscles.
Magnesium eases headaches and migraines by relaxing your blood vessels; I once stopped a migraine in it’s tracks with a cup of Magnesium drink.
If you’re dealing with any of those symptoms, try supplementing Magnesium to support your nervous system and be sure that you’re getting the rest and deep sleep you need.
Here are some ways to take Magnesium. Choose one that works for you.
-Enjoy a hot bath each day with Epsom salts. Epsom salts contain Magnesium, helping you to sweat and eliminate toxins, while absorbing this essential mineral into your skin to relax tired, aching muscles and joints. You can purchase Epsom salts at most drug stores, grocery stores, or your health food store.
-Have a cup of Calm, a powdered Magnesium drink by Peter Gilam. Calm comes in several flavors, and although you can have it any time of day, it may make you sleepy. (I know yogi’s who drink this for breakfast, but personally I’d be asleep at my desk if I did. I enjoy it at night mixed with hot water).
Calm will relax you, and it will also assist with constipation. Begin slowly with just a teaspoon the first night to avoid loose stools the next morning. Increase as you like.
Tip: add Calm powder to your cup, then pour a small amount, about 1/8 cup, of hot water into the cup. The Calm drink will expand and foam, and then go flat. Stir gently. After the foam subsides, fill your cup to the desired level.
-Take Magnesium capsules orally before bed to help you fall and stay asleep through the night. Magnesium capsules can purchased at your health food store (I take this with me when I travel). If you’re drinking Calm, you will generally not need to take Magnesium in capsule form.
