Drink Your Chia
The warmer weather (finally) is making me want to get out and move, so I thought I’d share my favorite sports recovery drink with you. This is great for boosting brain power too, so for days when you’re bonding with your desk and Mac, this will work.
Chia seeds are one of my favorites superfood seeds, they’re anti-inflammatory, and higher in Omega 3 fatty acids than flax seeds. They also contain protein, fiber, calcium, magnesium, copper, iron, and zinc.
You absolutely can use the whole seed, and not the ground version; they absorb up to 10 times their weight in liquid and are readily absorbed by your body.
(I get lots of questions about whether they need to be ground or not.)
Ingredients
1 tsp chia seeds
8-10 ounces coconut water (my favorite version) or *water
Slice lemon or lime
*Added sweetener if you’re using water; 1 teaspoon coconut sugar, or a few drops of lemon stevia
Fill glass with coconut water and add the chia seeds.
I can’t begin to tell you how I created the heart shape, but I did! How cute is that?
Let me know if you can too, tweet or post your photo to me over on Facebook or Twitter.
Preparation
1. Stir the chia seeds around, or do all of this is a shaker or mason jar with a lid and shake it!
2. Add a squeeze of lemon or lime, and let it sit for about 10 minutes.
Enjoy those EFA’s! (essential fatty acids)

Sounds great but what is your favorite coconut water?
Holli Thompson / 4.5.2013
Besides fresh from the coconut, I like http://www.harmlessharvest.com/WORLD-S-BEST-COCONUT-WATER and also Nirvana brand, in glass. It also depends on what’s available. I hope you love it!

Can I use warm water and make it like a tea?
Holli / 8.26.2013
Hi Marie,
I don’t see why not. I haven’t tried that, but let us know how you like it.
Don’t boil the water, or the chia, you’ll lose the natural enzymes. I would recommend gently warming it.
