Spring clean your diet

Spring can bring some unwelcome pressure—as you peel away bulky winter layers, you may not yet feel ready for your close up. While the rest of the world is having fun, dining al fresco at sidewalk cafés or running in the park, you might be disappointed to discover that you gained some pounds over the winter; your running shorts are now too tight to fit over your hips. You’ve spent the winter on the sofa or behind a desk, and now everyone around you is moving faster—jogging, running, walking—while you feel like you’re in quicksand.

A nutritional cleanse in the spring is part of the natural way of life. It helps you transition physically and mentally from the quiet of winter into the active style of the new season.

Baby root vegetables, asparagus, and tender greens—all are high in fiber and beneficial to your digestion. A cleanse in spring should be gentle and easy, because spring is naturally the time of year for lighter, easy-to-digest, cleansing foods.

Ready to give it a go? This is how to enjoy a gently, enjoyable spring cleanse.

1) Enter spring, into your fridge.
The baby vegetables of spring; radishes, carrots, and baby beets, are small and tender and therefore easier to digest than the later harvest of the fall. The spring harvest is traditionally simple and spare. Fruits are not plentiful yet, and early berries are light and delicate.

A good cleanse includes a plentiful salad at least once a day. Fill your crisper with baby vegetables and get creative. Radish, watercress, shallot, salad anyone?

2) Move it, move it.
Spring is a time for new activity, and even if you’re not planting a field or mulching your garden, you still feel it. It’s like a new day, a new beginning. Even if you don’t garden, you have seeds to plant in the metaphorical sense. The time is now to kick that butt into shape for summer.

Challenge yourself to move, starting today, to be able to say you’re doing something for your body and that it feels really good. Start gently, and slowly; you don’t have to compete with anyone. Take a look at this sneak peek inside my book for all my favorite movement tips and ideas.

3) Exfoliate
Spring is the time to prepare your skin for spring, but it’s also important to exfoliate during your cleanse because the process aids in releasing toxins out through the skin. My favorite tip is dry brushing, which you can read about here.

For an extra special treat throw together a DIY scrub for that pretty face. My Wild Orange Scrub is sure to do the trick.

4) Get support
Try not to go it alone. Your cleanse will be far more effective and easy if you gal-pal up, work with a coach, or sign up for a group program. It’s much harder to cheat when you have someone cheering you on.

For added support and cheer leading, why don’t we work together? From selecting a cleanse that fits you perfectly, to shopping and then easing into things, I’ll guide you each step of the way. You’ll find it’s actually fun to do a spring cleanse. Learn more about my Solo-Styling here.
