The Well-Stocked Fridge
Imagine having someone call and say that they want to photograph your fridge. It’s sort of like having someone want to peek into your clothes closet. I’d worry if I left bras and panties lying around.
So it was with my fridge. Well and Good NYC wanted to know..and I barely had time to pick up. I got to work fluffing.
I found 3 bottles of ketchup, some shriveled clementines, an empty sauerkraut jar, and leftovers from last week growing something funky, but lots of good too.
I condensed 2 packages of nutritional yeast, wiped off jars and bottles, put jams with jelly, hot sauces with ketchup, and used the rest of the time to whip up a few recipes.
I cheated, just a tiny bit.
I will tell you I was pretty proud of my fridge. My condiments were all organic, and we were loaded up on greens and veggies. My fridge showed a household of three different nutritional styles, one child, one man, and one nutritional stylist. Some eat meat, and eggs, and one doesn’t. It’s all there.
Eating organic, local and fresh food is something we do in our home, and our refrigerator showed it. There weren’t any hidden sodas, or grocery store candy bars.
We eat this way, and we’re proud of it. Well, at least I am. (My son may beg to differ at times.)
One of the keys to “healthy eating” is keeping your fridge stocked with organic, GMO free, whole foods.
It’s the day to day that matters, the extra few cents you’ll spend on the organic ketchup to avoid added soy and cane sugar, the extra five dollars you’ll spend on organic celery and apples to avoid high pesticide levels.
Take a look at your fridge and tell me what’s inside down below..
Are there everyday basics that you can upgrade to organic to avoid some toxic additives? Are you buying antibiotic and hormone free dairy and meats, if you eat them? It’s the daily habits that make all the difference.
Take some notes this week, on what you need to upgrade your fridge, and then gradually switch over.
You want to be ready for your own fridge close-up!

Hi Holli,
That’s a great advice. I rather eat less amount but more nutritious foods, than eat more but empty foods (no nutrition).
I still let my kids to eat candy sometime, but at home I try to give them healthy foods.
In my fridge, I have local pasture eggs, ghee, organic romaine heart, organic chicken, red pepper, organic carrot, organic celery, organic unfiltered apple juice, spring water, cream top organic yogurt, sardine with olive oil, fermented cod liver oil, goji berries covered chocolate, cheese, grapes, dried fig covered chocolate, organic cultured butter, local pasture milk, organic caesar dressing. I got most of my grocery at Whole Food Market, Wegmans and online stores.
