When summer sneaks up on you…

Sometimes, summer just sneaks up on you..

It’s often the littlest things that make the biggest difference to your health. Staying hydrated is one of those simple, inexpensive, things. And since your body is 55-60% water, allowing yourself to get thirsty is a sign that you needed liquids well before.

Water makes your skin glow, wards off hunger, and often when you get a mid-day craving, it’s exactly what you need. Drinking water helps all of your body systems function, well.

Consider this your friendly reminder.
Here are some favorite ways.

  • Iced tea

I love iced tea, but it can give me a nervous stomach if I drink too much. That’s why I love guayusa tea from Runa. Guayusa is a South American plant that’s similar to tea, but has a “gentle, natural” energy. All I know is that it doesn’t upset my stomach, so it’s my tea of choice. (apparently actor Channing Tatem‘s too)
Here’s that recipe.

Ingredients
5 Runa brand Ginger Citrus tea bags
1 tablespoon raw, local honey
1/2 lemon sliced
1/4 orange sliced
Preparation
Brew tea according to directions, or if you have time, add tea bags to a pitcher of water and allow to brew naturally in the direct sun (a few hours).
Add honey, and squeeze lemon and orange slices gently, then allow them to float in your pitcher.
Stir and serve

  • Lemonade

Nothing beats lemonade, especially when you’re really thirsty. Here’s a simple, but healthy and low-glycemic recipe that will help you and your kids beat the heat.

  • Spice up your water

Ditch the boredeom as you start your day. Prepare a pitcher in the morning using one of the following:
Cucumber slices (gentle but refreshing)
Lavender buds and lemon slices (from the garden is best)
Mint leaves and fresh summer strawberries

Stuck away from home without your own water bottle?

It happens, and while you’re conscious of the environment, every once in a while you need to buy bottled water.
My choice is Essentia brand; the bottle is thick and BPA free and this crisp water is balanced PH with added electrolytes.

It tastes delicious, it’s hydrating, and I’m a fan.
